London is, among many of its qualities, the city of possibilities, the city where you will always find an alternative plan or a new place to visit, no matter if you’re travelling or if you’ve been living there some years.
The first and only time I went to London was six years ago, and I didn’t remind it so big, or beautiful or elegant.
Things are not always seen in the same way. There are films that some time ago I loved and now I find really bad, book that bored me and today I can’t stop reading, song that I hated and now I have in my «top list». With the places it happens the same.
A city can be perceived in the same way that a film, a book or a song. A city has its own story and its own melody.
The first time I went to London I can say I was kid, and probably I didn’t see further than the monuments and other landscapes.
After some years studying I have discovered that a place can’t be defined by what it has, but by the situations that have occurred there, or the people that in their times protagonize an important moment in history, art, literature…
When you discover all that, a normal place becomes an incredible place.
London has been and is, the place where William Shakespeare wrote his most important plays, and where he and Ben Jonson or Christopher Marlowe represented their plays in the famous theatre The Globe», where John Milton wrote his «Paradise Lost», where Emmeline Pankhurst pronounced her discourse about the gender equality, where Charles Dickens inspired to write classics like «Great Expectations», where Virginia Woolf inspired to write her poems, where the Beatles madre their first music recording… And the list keeps growing.
London is an amazing city, and between all its qualities and stories, Peter Pan in particular taught us that we can be eternal kids and in London we actually are.
We can walk over its parks, cross the Westminster bridge, look at the lights of the Big Ben at night, as it looks to illuminate the whole city, go into its museums… But of course, we can dream as when we were kids, because as much as we grow, as long as we can dream and get excited with what we see, imaging that playwright in that state we are, or with that experience we are about to live, we can feel that kid that we carry inside and we will never let go.
There will always be a reason to be excited and London is one of them which becomes thousands.
